15 April: A-to-Z Challenge

AI artwork: sunset, starlings in formation of murmuration.

M is for Magnetic Storm

Starlings on a length of wind
a far off thunder under their wings
is pulled into confusion.

It’s erotic prose weather, but
she’s thinking sausage rolls.

  1. Do you have swarms of starlings there, Misky? We get them here fairly often during the Spring/Summer; they completely cover the lawn so all that’s visible is a sea of black. It’s quite amazing and alarming at the same time.
Now I’m thinking about sausage rolls!

    1. No exaggeration, we have them in the millions down here on the Sussex coast. They’re resident all year long but starlings from Europe migrate here in autumn to over-winter. Flocks more than double at that time.

  2. Oh, I know “no exaggeration”! First time I saw them I expected Alfred Hitchcock to make an appearance! The thing is, they gather in trees so you don’t see them among the leaves. Then, like stealth bombers, they swoop down and cover the lawns like a blanket of ink. It’s incredible – the kind of thing that makes you want to grab the kids and run inside! 😂 😳

  4. I’ve seen smaller flocks of birds. Good imagery along with the poem.
