2 April: NaPoWriMo Day 1 and 2

Day 1.

The Blow Fly

Such sadness
in this invisible wind,
trifling in this spider’s grate.

Did you know your tears
taste like wine.
Do you feel venom’s fiery pyre.

Shake like whiskers,
tremble in its nest.
Your wings, a curse,
in a spider’s universe.

Day 2.

What is fog.
A feeling of waiting. A rooting. A rioting.

What is a river.
The deepest word your heart can navigate, like last night’s sleep.

What is a miracle.
To be flesh and blood, and not turn to stone.

What is salt.
To taste frozen galaxies.

What is thunder.
The last train of the night. Three years of war.

What is a ghost.
Rain on a cold window.

What is longing.
The name of an old wish.

    1. I have the same reaction to Visual Verse’s image this month.

      1. Funny how some images draw a blank in one’s head.

        1. I just can’t make out what the image is.

          1. It is a bit… abstractish. I saw it as definitely in water with a big squid like thing on the left and little Mary Poppins like figures floating about with a few magic looking stars.

            1. Is it? It looks like a loofah sponge to me. 😂😜

            2. Well go with that then! :-). Aren’t they made from sea creatures too?

            3. No. They’re a dried gourd, as in a plant. A Luffa plant.

            4. Ah. Well anyway, I guess you’re supposed to write what you see. But I get your position. I looked at the Rattle Ekphrastic today and didn’t see anything that I could make a poem out of. Unlike VV, you have a whole month to work on Rattle but I’m not sure I’ll try.

  2. Enjoyed the second in particular, but the first… I’m on the side of the spiders!

    1. Same here. I have no issues with spiders.

  3. What a curse to have wings to fly but also doomed to die if caught 😢
