17 January: for JusJoJan Day 16

AI digital art, somalian woman with shopping bag waiting at bus stop.

It’s Called Yididiilo, I Think

Yididiilo.
I think that’s Somalian for ‘optimistic’,

and she certainly is, thinking that
a bus will stop here.

She has a time schedule, and
she wants to go places like
Nutfield. And Redhill. And go

to that farm shop across from
the betting shop, next to where
Blockbusters used to be,

although it’s a bingo hall now,

but never mind because
we still call it Blockbusters,
as if it’s a landmark
of historical significance.

And maybe stop by the cemetery
because, as she puts it, one day
she wants to have a grave of her own.

And I think to myself, this woman
is very yididiilo because a bus
hasn’t stopped here since 1998.
