27 October: Ekphrastic for Petite Pen

london embankment scene with wintery trees

Or So You Said

the ancients did as we do now.

love
with biting urgency, and
two fingers up at twilight’s face
before light dies
in a final lift, and
levels the uncurtained moon
on us.

this is how it is with us.
no love letters.
no emptying ones head
of tears.
no whispering names like an old wish.

just darkness through the branches,
slipping through the twigs like
fingers interlaced, locked
and mingling, as we do now.

or so you said.

I’ve never been able to do that; I just rattle on and on and managed to stop at 77 words.Β Β©Misky 2022 Shared with #amwriting on Twitter. The image below is clickable, leading to K’s poetry prompt.

  4. This grip you create with darkness and tree branch is so inspiring. I love the storytelling tone, the way it is a continuation of legend and of desperate needing. So wonderful. Thank you for sharing this piece, z Misky. It has a sort of creepy neediness as well, which I really enjoyed.

  5. I had to look up the definition of Ekphrastic. Then I had to Google the definition. Wow, you sure write pretty! ☺️

    1. Thanks, but that seems like a lot of effort for just a few words. πŸ˜‚
