Her Dark Eyes
Her eyes are pure stars,
her memories too whole,
… of watching ducklings
struggle after their mother,
… of watching oak seeds
helicopter aimlessly through air,
… of rain flooding
a bird’s nest,
and they think her mad
when she says this world
will break your heart.

It does break your heart but it also brings deep joy when the ducklings thrive and the saplings flourish. I think there is a hint of a smile behind those dark eyes. 🙂

The evening news had me sobbing last night. That old woman, crying, all her weight resting on a walking stick, and people just filing by her. Finally, the idiot reporter who asked questions like “what was it like last night” and “are you frightened”, helped her along for a short awhile. I start welling-up again just thinking about it. I don’t know whether to be angry or sad, but I don’t think I can be both at the same time.

I know exactly what you mean. It’s such a terrible situation and leaves ordinary people like us feeling so helpless. 😢

I love this, Misky. It is heart breaking and yet so simple.

I think everything happening in the world during the past few years is finally getting to me – pandemic, war, death, starvation, mass migration … and soon fuel, fertiliser, and food shortages caused by the war in Ukraine. By comparison, heartbreak is a simple concept.

She is so right, the world will do just that, and not once, sadly.

Brutal images and I can see them all in her eyes.

People will break your heart, the natural world still offers joy. So sad, what is going on, it makes me weep too.

How very expressive you captured her eyes with: Her eyes are pure stars.
Those simple acts can break my heart too.

So many small sorrows the world has to offer… Sometimes she should just shut her eyes and rest.

What a splendid idea.

beautiful… but the helicoptering isn’t exactly aimless… I mean, random – yes… but not what I would personally call aimless 🙂

A lovely interpretation of the image. Reminds me of the last child to leave the home… and a time when there were many children. One hopes that grandchildren visit often.
