27.1.22 The Waiting Room

Hieronymus Bosch's Garden Of Earthly Delights

THE WAITING ROOM

She is my
elderly neighbour.
She sneezes.
The room
goes quiet, and
they stare at us.

I burst out laughing.

Not because they’re staring at us, but because I remember my father saying, “Look on the bright side. You can’t fail forever.”

  1. The picture made me chuckle, the poem made me smile and I love that line of your father’s.

    1. Last year I participated in a month-long poetry challenge, and I used Hieronymus Bosch paintings as the inspiration. The man is scary! But that little guy sure made me chuckle.
