It's Still Life

THE WAITING ROOM

She is my
elderly neighbour.
She sneezes.
The room
goes quiet, and
they stare at us.

I burst out laughing.

Not because they’re staring at us, but because I remember my father saying, “Look on the bright side. You can’t fail forever.”
