TWO EGGS OF IMAGINARY DREAMS
My waitress …
is it still waitress or is it
a waitperson now
… is standing over me
and staring across the street.
I think she’d rather
be working over there.
And she says,
You ready to order?
She shifts from one foot to the other,
her generous hips wobble like
a dashboard bobblehead doll.
Yes, thank you. May I have
a refill of coffee,
and No.2, please.
How do you want those eggs?
Over-easy, please, I say.
And she says,
Sometimes Cook can’t do that,
so shall we just say scrambled,
just in case, you know.
She walks off,
shouting my order to Cook,
and I’m wondering how she
makes her hips do that.

Love it. Two eggs, two hips and a bottle of attitude. The inimitable Cafe breakfast.

Thank you! I long for a proper café brekkie but that won’t happen until these restrictions lift. 😷
