A Bit Of Wizardry

origami figure of a wizard

He Says He’s Going to be a Wizard

It’s just a bit of havoc,
a boy with a wizard kit.

No, your sister didn’t vanish
when you lit 3 twigs, or

burnt toenail clippings in a sack.
And now you’re breathing in

snips of smoke, hoping
for the gift of future sight.

And, no, your sister’s
toenails didn’t fall off,

nor did your spine
sprout wings,

but I might blame you
for my aches and pains,

you and your curses on a rat’s red eye.

  1. This walks a fine line between child’s play and real spookiness. 🙂 Very cool.

    1. Thanks, Worms. When I read it again this morning, the enjambment is all wrong. I need to rework it.

      1. Ah well. Until this year, I’d never heard of enjambment. And when I did, it sounded like entrapment and I almost ran a mile. But now I can nod sagely and stroke my chin and say “I see.”

  3. I really dug it as is, Misky, but then you got me to mentally reworking the breaks &, clearly, so many other options… Have at it (if you must), Sisiter!

    1. You know how it is with poets, always tinkering and tweaking. 😁
