Miz Quickly’s Titles: Eagle

There’s an Eagle Sitting on the Marlboro Sign

I’m at a loss with all these signs.
I need some Left Right signs.
This Way Up. Down. Yes. No.

I always think: what would Dad do.

I still talk to you, you know,
like you’re a fixed star,
still governing my life
and direction. And yes,

that’s me occasionally
screaming at the sky,
and stealing lullabies
on a restless night.

I’ll tell you one thing, sunflowers
have it straight, their round faces
turning with the sun, being both
attentive and dismissive. And I

dreamt that I filled my shelves
with papyrus rolls
and dried buggy roses
still wet from the garden.

I shrug-off most of my dreams.
Don’t understand the signs.

But that eagle sitting
on the Marlboro sign,
well, some signs
you just don’t forget.

For Miz Quickly’s Titles. The Miz word was Eagle. The eagle on a roadside Marlboro sign was something I saw during a family holiday in California (many years ago, before everyone stopped smoking). ©Misky 2021 Shared with #apoemaday on Twitter

  1. Some sights stay with you forever, it’s true. We were circled by a pair of golden eagles in
the Spanish mountains. An awesome sight I will never forget.
