13 October: for dVerse

Just A Pinch

It’s times like these when
I think I’ll call Mum, tell her
about the garden today
with its spread of fuchsias

and how, if she was still
alive, she’d be pinching out
new growth, taking it home,
and rooting it in some water.

I don’t think she ever bought
a plant, she borrowed bits
and seeds from other people’s
plants, and grew them on.

Temping, to pinch off a bit,
but it just didn’t seem right.
I mean you can’t pinch new
growth in a garden centre,

can you?

    1. It’s funny how she occasionally slips into my idle thoughts. Suddenly there she is.

  3. Great poem. It amazes me how plants can regenerate from bits of plants. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if our injured service personnel could grow new limbs! 👍🙂
