9 October: A Strange Mildness

The Turn of the Season

bless
this mess of leaves

these trees rattle and
turn to burnt bits

leaves curl and
clench to themselves

crisp and broken
under some version of sun

that no longer warms
through glass panes.

it’s a blinding optic
of strange mildness
