4 October 2021: The Man on the Bus

Lost in His Own Desert

I travel
at the front of the bus,
just for the view,
and my eye
is caught by a man
who seems lost
in his own empty
desert. He looks
at his hands, and stares.
He’s in a place that’s
not the same as me,
and he picks
at his beard
and then at his ears,
and speaks loudly
into the seat
next to him.
And I wonder, does he
speak to a man
or a woman,
is that person young,
or old. Are they kind
to this man who’s
so very lost in himself.

  3. It seems to me that every third time I’ve boarded a bus I’ve found myself sharing space with this same guy (though I’m not sure you can share with someone who doesn’t even know you’re there). But (not counting a guided-tour bus I rode briefly with My Beloved Sandra a couple years ago in Savannah) I haven’t used any mass transit vehicles in about half a century.
    Mais je me souviens….

    Rockin work, Misky.

    1. I use it whenever it’s possible and practical. Just trying to do my ‘green’ bit.
