SoCS At The Lake

Southwater County Park, photo is mine.

Stream of Consciousness at the Lake

I walked around the lake this afternoon
with a view to having a coffee and
a sticky bun to show for the effort,
and two boys came fast behind me
on their scooters. One says to the other,

Do you have dinosaurs?
         to which the other says,
Yeah, I have lots of them.
Which ones, asks the first,
Do you have the weird one?
         And the other says,
Everybody has that one,
         and the first says,
Yeah, the weird one is best, and then says,
this old woman walks too slow,
and the first shushes him, says,
She’ll hear you,
         and the other quietens down
to a throaty word and says,
My nana can’t even hear a fart, so
I don’t think she’s hearing us talk.

And I burst into a loud shot of laughter
as the two of them are off with the wind
at their back, taking their conversation
with them down the road.
