Rooted
Off in the distance is a grove of trees,
so bare and far away. Ice clings to the twigs,
while a good natured wind laughs in
the branches. Each sentinel tree is standing,
calm and confident. Silently rooted in
broad smudges of winter snow.

Striking winter imagery. I specially like the sounds in this line: good natured wind laughs.

Great images Mish! Winter really does create a lot of smudges on the landscape! I love your poem with the trees laughing in the good natured wind!

I love tree poems and this one is delightful, Misky. I love the good-natured wind laughing in the branches.

Exquisite photo. As hot as it has been, to shift to cold thoughts has to give some relief. I see your poem as a powerful metaphor also.

So lovely. Reminds me of a nearby park after a good ice storm. I never really miss our winters but the beauty of the trees covered in snow and ice can be a wonderland.

Well bless me, but it was 29° here yesterday, I have a stiff neck from sleeping with the window open, and Mr Misky is at the paracetamol bottle claiming his back is knackered. All is not well in Sussex. 😂

Oh dear. Poor old Mr M. Please remember that men’s health is always a dozen times more serious than women’s.😂

Sometimes I reckon he has the pain threshold of a squeaky toy, but no matter – he’s the absolute best.

I really like how the “smudges” flowed so naturally in this poem and were not the main point. Lovely, Misky!
