Prose: A Peripheral View
The clouds open like windows for her – red billowing fields of wild poppies, dabs of Monet white-washed daisies. Spring rain allows nothing to stay asleep for long. Cornflowers will come along next in this wide green world.
The air flutters with colour, and her thoughts are an utter abandonment of things that can slip from attention, that fall between gaps. She is held by bird song and the urgent call of hatchlings – only mouths are we who sing(s).
The distant heart, which safely exists in the center of all things is this vision of a young and impressionable girl. That girl who could’ve been me.
For dVerse Prosery, including the unaltered phrase “Only mouths are we. Who sings the distant heart which safely exists in the center of all things?” –Rainer Maria Rilke (1875 – 1926), ‘Heartbeat’ .
