Day 30: I. Napowrimo: a directions poem, II. PA AprilPAD: Goodbye poem, III. The Poeming “They Were“. And that, my friends, is the end of April’s NaPoWriMo and Found Poetry Challenge and Writer’s Digest Poem-a-Day. I hope you’ve enjoyed the month.

Just Over There
It’s just over there, I said, but
if you keep your left shoulder
to the hedgerow, and walk past
where the little red fox dipped
between the fence last night,
and then take a hard left turn
at the tree that the moving van
hit 5-months ago leaving limbs
hanging off it like cat’s claws,
and then proceed beyond the
flowering cherry tree, which
isn’t blooming yet because this
April has been the coldest April
in all recorded history, which is
a very long time indeed, and
then once you pass through
the old rusty gate, turn right
and keep going past the old
elm tree that had Dutch Elm
disease and was chopped down
… oh I guess it’s 10-years now …
and then keep to the left of
the footpath because there’s
a vicious Chihuahua that barks
at everything that doesn’t
smell like Purina Kibbled Bits,
although I usually growl at
the little beastie, just ’cause
that’s the sort of thing I do,
and then you should see
the postbox right there.
II.
When
When you drove me to the airport,
and said you’d not be coming in,
if I’d known I’d never see you again,
I’d have asked for one more hug,
and just a bit more time.
