I. & II.
The Domestication of Pencils (or maybe it was rabbits)
Pencils are domesticated.
Even in the late Middle Ages,
European pencils were always
considered to be lucky. Kept
mostly in cosy little hutches,
kept mostly as family pets.
They’d never see an iron pot.
Strength came in long bones,
speedy in its locomotion.
Its ears listening all the while,
one ear moving One Direction,
(no, not the boy band),
and the other in the opposite.
Some strains of pencil are
bred for research, but most
prefer to sleep away the day.
Their sizes range from dwarf
to humungous giant, coming
in a wide variety of colours.
Some have patterned coats,
like one breed called Rex.
It has a short plush coat.
So I ask you, do you think it’s
okay to chew on that pencil?

Very clever Misky. As sharp as a rabbit in fact!
