I’m Sitting Here Remembering …
walking up Cat Street, and how
sun baked the back of my neck,
and when I walked past that shop
with icy air-conditioned breezes
blowing on to the street, and how
I turned on the ball of my foot and
stepped inside to escape the heat,
and it was a tiny shop wedged in
between luggage and handbags,
and on the other side they sold
silver earrings, and sitting there
in the window was a jade rabbit.
The sales girl spoke Cantonese,
but a calculator is all one needs.

Ahhh…Calculators and cash registers: the ultimate translators.
Sadly, most of their interpretations are beyond my meager means.
Fine write, this one. Salute.

What a lovely poem this is. The last couplet is the icing on your masterful cake.

You, with the bunnies again. I wonder if you have a collection? Yellow jade is striking.

Just the one jade rabbit, and as long as they stay out of my veg garden, I’m very fond of them.
