I.
Across the Sea
At the end of the pier
is a bell that looks like
a silver charm. Wind
teases the clapper,
and its tone leaves
my ears with wings
across the waves.
It passes through light,
and travels. I will do
the same, one day.
II.
These Old Roads
Left or right
or straight on,
beyond the bridge
or back behind and
over Furnace Ridge,
it matters not which
this or that,
as I’ve walked them
all before.

1.Â
Sowing Colour
sowing,
not sewing,
so soon
     tomatoesÂ
     cucumbers
     chilli peppers
     marigolds
     sage and chives and thyme
     and sweet peas.Â
growing every
     colour of summer.
2.
Homegrown for the Table
He’s been sowing,
though not sewing, he’s quick to state,
and so we will soon
have tomatoes and
     cucumbers and chilli peppers
     and marigolds and sweet peas,
and after lunch he was
staining lumber, planks and palletsÂ
of dusty green and pale blue.
He’s growing every
     colour of summer.
