ON BOGNOR BAY
A Poem in the Style of Raymond Garlick
Bognor Bay divided into two tongues.
A spit of shingle tossed by salty lips,
and a broad flat of sand where the wind sung
high to seagull cries. Riggings rang on
a whispering breeze, woodwind tunes and sea-
borne souls. Restless feet floundered upon
hard ground, so Pa took to sea, set his way
by his sail’s curve, and to him the sound
most loved – a ship’s bow splicing Bognor Bay.
dVerse ask us to write rhyming tercets of 3 lines stanza, 10 syllables to each line. The rhyme sets are: ON/SEA/UPON, WAY/SOUND/BAY, SUNG/LIPS/TONGUE. Image from the National Library of Ireland. CC:00 Date: 1870s NLI Ref.: STP_1179 [note: this became very awkward if divided into stanzas, so I decided to follow the brief except for that element.] ©️ Misky 2020
