Quadrille #96

Fevered

It’s a fevered dream,
you stumble sidewise
into a wild place, and you think,
God, don’t let me die here,
not now,
not here,
and you ignore that you’re
feeling very small,
and half ruined, and that’s
when your fever breaks
into rain.

  6. I love this…..a fevered dream (hah! could be doubled into my prompt for today’s Tuesday Poetics!) that has one seeing wild things then shrinking and then somehow, the fever breaks…rain or drenched in sweat that suddenly cools….or a soft cold water soaked cloth placed upon our brow that feels like sweet rain dousing the fire.

  7. This is a nice play on the quenching relief of rain.

  8. The title stood out for me in the first instance, Misky – and I started humming that old song, best performed by Peggy Lee: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGb5IweiYG8
It must be a fierce dream to send you stumbling ‘sidewise into a wild place’. I love the idea of fever breaking into rain.

  10. Gah.
These words leave me speechless, and a little gutted. And also, somehow, cleansed and redeemed. Too much, Misky. Brilliant.
