Day 7

Apple of My Eye by Andrea Kowch
two poems for PA’s Writers’ Digest PAD, Day 7 “Jealous”
I.
Brief

Because life is brief,

I wake early,
and then late to bed.
No real dread or regret
do I give time.

Not like a sunflower’s surrender
or winter’s blackened apples.

Life is luminous, a tide
with a degree of knee-jittering
uncertainty,

and I am always joyous for
brown salty skin of summer

because life is brief.

II.
Don’t Be Jealous, But

When I was not more than 24,
I saw Tom Selleck
at Fishermen’s Wharf.

I can die now,
I thought.

But that was many years ago.

Found Poetry from source: “Flowers In The Attic”
by VC Andrews (pg 15-17 iBook version).

You know,
rumpled.
Grim.
Like crazy
in my heart.
My eyes
never had room
for wailing inside

and everywhere.

But my heart
was good.

  1. I had forgotten that painting.

Enjoying reading these. I like the way the Attic series informs (or seems to) the other poems.

    1. Thanks. They certainly work together in this instance. I’ve stopped reading Attic, and now just skim read it. Gave me nightmares.

  2. Did not mean for there to be a question mark atthe end of that!
