dVerse Haibun #29

That Dog

And your little dog, too. Toto. Totally Toto. Barking at wind and witches and straw and wizards. I’m not an enthusiast of cute and fluff noise. Terriers — too small to know their place. No perspective. A constant scurry, and never waiting for their own tail. My dog never barked at wind. Nor witches. My dog’s an English Springer. She died yesterday, and that’s when a house fell on me.

Her silence grows — it’s
Water spilling on water.
And it grows.

  8. So sorry and sad about your dog – it reminded me of my lovely Jasper, who has been gone some years now but is not forgotten.
    The haiku is beautiful.

  9. Oh Marilyn…..this is so heartfelt and the haiku so complements what you’ve written and what you’re feeling. Our pets are so much a part of family. Their loss is a true loss of companionship and their unconditional love. I am so sorry for your loss.

  14. May Molly rest in peace. My Sassy left me a few years ago, but it for the best because she was in a lot of pain in the end. I know I will see her again on the other side. ❤

  15. Dang. I was all ready to defend terriers but then you come in with that ending that so breaks my heart. So sorry for you, Misky. Losing our dogs never gets easier. I still mourn mine that have moved on. Tears.
