dVerse Quadrille #13

A Fluttering Folly

Time’s not making this any easier; I wear your
memory like a ring. Twist it when it’s too tight,
curse it like a floundering rite when it aches.
Memories of all my failures, fluttering follies
like sails on little boats fleeing this journey.

  12. The alliteration you use with the ‘t’ and ‘f’ brings to mind a kind of spluttering, an attempt to cover up hurt and pain… very nicely done (whether conscious or not).

  17. I like everything about this, Misky. Wonderful alliteration, a refreshing format and the analogy of the ring to life’s mistakes….then to top it off a great visual of those “sails on little boats” fleeing the scene.

  21. Great imagery, and I really like the way you use journey without making it your central focus.

  22. Your poem led me (it didn’t necessarily say this) to the comforting thought that our memories do begin to flee us… like boats. One part of the poem is the poet’s; the other is that of the reader. You had the joy of creation. I have the enjoyment of interpretation. Let me live in my enjoyment (and delusion, if necessary!). 🙂
