An Etheree for dVerse

Toast

The
air seems
distant, no
landscape to see.
Dusty purple greys
the hills. The sky breaks out
in argument with weather
as air holds warm and motionless.
It’s one of those simple things,
like walking through fire to toast some bread.

  3. This is so good. If your air is motionless, come on over. We are having brutal winds here. We had to cover the tomatoes with plastic since they are still quite fragile. I love the irony of that last line.

Oh, oh, oh! I LOVED this. Your style is clean and elegant, and every line is packed with images that are stunning in their simplicity. “The sky breaks out // in argument with weather”– so good. And that last line! It’s got a wittiness, without toppling over into ‘cute’ territory. Love the calm, observant wryness of the voice here… excellent.

I’m not sure that any piece of toast is worth walking through fire! 😉
