A Few Words About Paolo

And so he keeps it brief,
“Ciao, are you ready?”
His rhythmic voice
is a bouncing ball —
fills the airy momentary gaps
with his memorable smile.
But he’s working; the chatter
is part of the parcel.
It’s a living, like acting,
role-play,
and he’s proud of his
centre-of-attention pedestal,
like a vestal virgin
who’s really,
really experienced.
And then he walks away,
taking the conversation
with him.

  3. Ha, I enjoyed the comment that he walks away and takes the conversation with him. Well, if he is (like you said) a waiter, the conversation at the table must be quite minimal. Sad that they depend on the waiter. (smiles)

  5. He takes the conversation with him, one wonders how many conversations he has heard or participated in…sounds like he knows how to work a room…

  7. We’ve all had ’em like this. Sometimes we want to be entertained and sometimes we just want to eat. Clever poem.

  8. Reminds me of the old movie where the married woman with teenage children leaves a note on the refrigerator door and travels to Greece….or is it Italy….and a man pays attention to her and love is felt again….and then….
“He’s working; the chatter is part of the parcel.” Smooth guy! Wicked guy!

It appears that he is a trusted being. He keeps secret whatever he hears and no others know about them!

…picturing him picking him all up and putting it back in his briefcase, and striding off. 😉
