21 March: Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

A week of birthday celebrations, fresh air and spring gardening, and food shortages.

1) Thankful for getting two Mother’s Day a year. The one in the UK is called Mothering Sunday, and it’s for everyone who ‘mothers’ — so being a mother isn’t a requirement. And then in May, I get the one that America celebrates, so I get goodies then also. Both start the day with a fry-up.

2) Thankful to celebrate three birthdays this week: my husband’s and my youngest granddaughter — both born on the same day, but different years, obviously, and my nephew in Denmark.

3) Thankful that clearing out , disinfecting, and cleaning the greenhouse is done. The dirt, dead insects and debris from last summer all gone.

4) I will be very thankful for all the beautiful roses this summer. I’m just waiting for my husband to dig the holes for me.

5) The daffodils have finished blooming but the tulips are in full bloom now. They opened on Ostara, spring equinox! What a beautiful way to welcome spring!

6) Thankful for the laughs when the silly pigeon sits in the birdbath for hours on end, and won’t let other birds enter ‘his territory’.

7) There’s a green sheen of spring on some of the trees, although not the beech trees yet. This tree is in ‘my forest’ which isn’t really my forest, and the culling of deer has finished, so it’s open to the public again.

8) A walk in the local pine forest. It feels alive again, and the bird song has changed. Birds have returned from wintering down the south, our winter birds have flown back north again.

9) Thankful for Six Sentence Stories and Brigid’s Diary, and the ‘mindmapping’ liturgy written for it.  All the liturgies can be read here

10) I’ll be grateful when my local supermarket solve their supply-chain problems, and that we’ll have fresh fruit and veg again. I wrote them this morning, and it’s apparently a problem speicifc to Sussex and Surrey, not the whole country, and not Brexit.

  1. Wonderful list of things to be thankful for. The tulips are beautiful and just imagining sitting in that bird bath all day made me smile.
