2701: dVerse Quadrille

a young girl wearing a yellow rain coat and yellow boots, splashing in puddles.

The Yellows

There was a time
when time was everywhere.
Autumn leaves meant
time for school,
time for yellow pencils with rubber tips,

and winter meant
time for rain coats,
and tripping in yellow rubber boots
two sizes too big —
“Grow into them,” Mum said.

  1. That last one really hit home… I remember I was so used with the size of shoes my mother bought so it took years until I realized that my feet had stopped growing and I should really go down a couple of sizes.

    1. What is it with these mothers who think their children will grow into clothing and shoes that are sizes years in advance. (laughing) Having said that, money was hard to come by for them back then.
