11 July: Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

In absolutely no numerical order:

II.
A very long, quiet walk in the forest with John, my youngest son, who’s visiting until Monday, and then back home to Bogotá.

He knows the value of listening through silence. It’s possibly the most valuable lesson he learned from me. Well, that — and I taught him to make proper gravy.

I.
Listening to my son singing in the shower.

III.
Really thankful for a proper rain and electrical storm. 25mm of rainfall and 3 water butts are full again.

VIII.
Facetime’ing with the grandchildren. Little Nico’s kitten (named Oreo – it’s black) died, and he and I talked about that. He is insistent that the cat be cremated. Yes, he huffed, I know what cremated means. They did that to Mama’s papa — and then they put him in a jar. Luisa (his big sister: 7) wants to put Oreo into a box and stick it under a tree … but it’s my cat, not hers, he says.

IV.
Cumulonimbus clouds. Beautifully alive and growing vertically.

V.
The open-air weald museum, which is a fully-functioning restored village from the 1600s. We took John there, knowing his love of history. It was a lovely day out in fresh air and sunshine. But hot. Really hot.

VI.
Thankful that I’m still able to climb to the top of a very high, steep hill to enjoy the spectacular views of West Sussex on a summer day.

VII.
A Greek salad on a very hot day. I marinated the feta in lemon juice and oregano. Tomatoes and cucumbers from the greenhouse, still warm from the sun.

X.
Another baby arrives in the family. I will meet her in August.

IX.
Forever thankful that I live in such a beautiful part of England.

    1. It really is. He returns back home to his wife and children tomorrow. It’s been the best possible 10-days though.

  3. Learning to make gravy is very important. I’m not sure mine is proper by your definition, but my Sweetie loves it.

The open air museum would be my kind of place, too.

Congratulations on the newest addition to the family.

  4. totally love the numbering of your oT!

in an odd way (no! say it ain’t so) your approach to one of the ‘requirements’ of this bloghop (along with other kindred manifestations is what, imo, keeps this ‘hop fresh and enjoyable.
