7 Feb: Ten Things of Thankful

AI art. the words Ten Things of Thankful on a white background with a bouquet of white tulips

In no particular order:

1. Well, thank goodness for that; my 32-year old Bamix hand blender finally died. Now I can buy another one with a beast-like motor that can chew its way through a banana and yogurt.

2. Full fibre broadband installation on Friday morning—my mobile will still keep me connected, but no internet access until everything is wired in and reconnected later in the afternoon.

3. That I can give ChatGPT a short list of ingredients in the fridge, and it will give me a recipe. No more weeding through Google search links with pop-up ads to find something that will work with what I have. Thanks to a.i. we had creamy ham, leeks, and potato chowder.

4 and 5. I am completely thankful for those reminders. Taking the last antibiotic capsules tomorrow.

6. Early February, and the lawn is bright with wild croci (or crocuses as some call them) blooming in the winter sunshine.

7. I am thankful for my little Nico (grandson: age 5) who’s about to lose another “milk tooth” and collect money from the tooth fairy (and! and!) also from the Colombian equivalent called Ratoncito Pérez, who’s a rat named Pérez (of course). Nico says he’s going to save all of his “tooths” money, and be rich, so that he has more money than his papa, and then he’ll loan his papa money when he needs it … and he’ll keep saving until I die. I delight that this child has no filters.

8. I am utterly thankful that Luisa (granddaughter: age 7) doesn’t expect me to do the splits like she can. (“Can you do this, Nana?” … as she shows me during FaceTime her ultra-flexibility)

9. Homemade pea and bacon soup to take the chill off. We’re still in steady-state-freezing-conditions (yes, I am a bit obsessed with weather). Warmed up the leftovers for lunch.

10. Thankful that I was able to fix the GPS function on my husband’s iPhone. It kept tracking his daily walk as two sessions rather than one. The correct number of steps recorded, but not the total kilometres. Every time, he had to add them up; today he walked 4.2 kilometres. I’m thankful that he can do this, and thereby keep his glucose numbers stable.

    1. Shaw: Grumpy ol’ fart … It’s a pity that he held a somewhat critical view of young people under-utilising their time and potential.

I wish you the same. Thank you.
