17 January: Ten Things of Thankful

red tulips with the words Ten Things of Thankful

In no particular order:

1. New term starts. Switching on research mode. I’m so thankful that most of what I need can be found online. Centuries of history digitised.

2. Scan results: stable. There’s enough thankfulness in that one to fill numbers 2-9.

3. Leftover Christmas cheeses and fruit for dinner.

4. He who reminds me to take my meds this week so I can rest in the morning and not miss a dosage . Priceless. Thankful.

5. The black crow who taps on my window.  (drawing)

6. A walk in the forest to clear my mind and focus on my inner voice and intuition. It’s a Wolf Moon. I am thankful for its clarity.

7. Seeing a broad smear of stars in the clear winter sky with the grandchildren. The Milky Way. Every so thankful that I’ve seen it.

8. Finding a neat stack of pebbles and seashells from Brighton beach in the grandchildren’s bedroom. They’re now stacked on the windowsil waiting for Nico and Luisa’s return.

9. A cup of tea with lemon and honey for my sore throat.

10 … and finally, for every last one of you, but who’s counting.

  2. I love this one — “Finding a neat stack of pebbles and seashells from Brighton beach”. I’ve been trying to clean out a house that’s been owned by my family since 1967. So many memories. So many objects that hold small memories.

    1. Seeing that pile made me long to hold those little ones again. I’ve told Nico and Luisa maybe we’ll see each other again at Christmas in Bogota. As for clearing out houses … I’ve done this twice, and it’s not easy. You have my heartfelt sympathy. Fact is, the children don’t really want their parents stuff, stuff that we think is interesting is really just clutter to our children. Every year, I sort through “stuff” and donate the “stuff” to charity so the kids don’t have to cope with making those decisions.

  3. You found nice pebbles and shells from your grandchildren’s visit; I just inadvertently washed a glow stick when I was washing sheets from my grandchildren’s visit! Fortunately, it didn’t break in the washing machine.

A stable scan certainly does count for more than one thankful thing!

    1. Oh no! A glow stick in the washing. That would’ve ‘brightened’ things up a tad!
