30 Nov: Ten Things of Thankful

words "10 THING OF THANKFUL" with pink peonies

In no particular order …

1. Thankful that the publisher’s proof doesn’t require amendments because as the world turns, so does my desire not to stay fixated on one thing.

2. I am thankful that our Christmas shopping for each other is finished. Now to shop for the younger grandchildren who already have more toys than all the stuff in Hamley’s Toy Store since it was first established in London in 1760.

3. I am thankful beyond word or image that that is over. At least for a few more months.

4. I am thankful that this Yorkshire pudding was about as perfect as I’ve ever made. It was humungous!

5. That when the overnight temperature drops to -4 degrees (C) that I stay warm under my goose down duvet (or dyne [dooo-na], as we call them in Denmark), and I’m thankful for that.

6. I am thankful for the concept that dark winter afternoons are caused by the light taking a rest. Sometimes it’s helpful to know people who can shed light on things.

7. How many is that … 6. This is going to be a difficult week to find 10 things to be thankful for because it’s been a week to forget. Quickly.

8. Ah, yes. I am thankful that I forget things that are forgettable, like this entire week.

9. “Thank you” … and there’ll be no making it go poof, and I’m thankful for that, and giggling. 🤣

9.1 If I can think of something for this number, I’ll come back and add it, and I’m thankful to be able to tweak things.

10 … and finally, for every last one of you, but who’s counting.

  2. I love this list, particularly #6. I think that’s an awesome reminder when the winter blues (or even full-on SAD) hits us hard.

  3. Excellent listifying*

I’m with Astrid on (her) thoughts on Summer’s Revenge, i.e. the decreased amount of daylight.

Grat #4!! So that’s what Yorkshire pudding looks like! (Naturally have heard of the dish, but Dickens never bothered with food pics)
(do ‘Fish and Finger Pie next week!! (that one’s been gnawing at my brain since the ’60s)

    *not a ‘real’ word

    1. I believe one of the Kennedy troop had fish gnawing on his brain also. I looked up the recipe and it includes baked beans. This sounds utterly toxic in my book.

  4. Your lead off TF – book in the works, Misky?
For a “week to forget”, you have an enjoyable bunch of Thankfuls.
Worry not! Beginning December 22nd, the days begin to get longer. Spring is on the way!

P.S. I too have never seen Yorkshire pudding. Wow!

    1. It’s still with the printers as they review spine stuff and bleed margins (which has nothing to do with paper cuts, I’m told). The ‘MS’ is all approved, but “this is a busy time of the year,” they say. So I must wait. And by 22 December, my youngest son and his wife and their two highly energetic children (Luisa and Nico) will be here for three weeks – and I am silly with joy at the thought. As for the Yorkshire pudding; think humungous pop-over … or I think they’re also called Dutch Baby, although those are sweet rather than savoury. No sugar in a Yorkshire pudding.
