Upstream Couplet

A shimmering silver
has held me on the footbridge.

Chalk-clear stream
weaves the smooth stones,

while sunlight filters
through summery leaf.

It’s liquid silver.
Its speckled flanks.

A trout swims against the flow,
its tail flicks

against the stream’s push
with graceful weight.
