12 Nov: Poem-a-Day Challenge

pencil sketch of an old stone cottage on the west coast of Ireland

Lost and …

set back off the old road
there’s a house that waits
quiet and dreaming,
hushed and peaceful
in winter’s early twilight.

I am sure ghosts of time
roam in the empty rooms,
that they walk softly
on the stairs, and I expect
to see a face watching me,

a woman perhaps, her eyes
lost to dreams but I only see
my own lost dreams as I look
from the outside into that
house set back off the road.
