Love Is and Is Not
Love Is …
a weather beaten
cottage on a shingle beach that grows
out of chalk cliffs, its back bent and
its facade
the colour
of grey pearls. A small fearless cottage,
courageous and resilient in the face of
salty sea.
Love Is …
not hate,
nor scorn. Love’s opposite is indifference.
It is a lack of sound. A disconnect. A grave.
A stone
that refuses
to clear its throat to speak. Hate is madness
staring into the sun. A river of disembodied
words.
Indifference
is a mutable tongue. A granite truth and its
poverty. A void in darkness. An indifferent
path.
