8 Sept: for RDP ‘Thumb”

ai art, woman's hand with needle and thread mending a hole in knitwear

Knots

It was the way
she’d lick her thumb,
and pull a knot through
to the end of a thread.

It was magical,
as if her mouth held
a thousand knots
under her tongue.

And then she’d
look at the permanent groove
in her thumbnail
engraved by every thread

she’d knotted,
and she’d sigh a small
harumph sound
of mild irritation.
