26 August: Journal of Thoughts from Last Week

a.i. art wildfires, dusty road leading into distance

A Journal of Thoughts from Last Week – (a Cadralor poem)

The Y In Wildfire

I.
August was a dry kiss of long thirst
The lean arm of a branch and root

II.
A dark sprawling road with no shelter
from the torch of fire or crawling sun

III.
Summer’s short lived empire forgets
the ways of a desert’s cruel trap

IV.
A bowl of water to drown a smile
Parched lips that no fire could burn

V.
August knew air, fire, water and
the intricate complexities of grief

  1. Aye…
    … amidst rain of ash
    endless blind violence
    dead fish in a gulf
rotting so the stench go sky high
Yet, a white flower blooms and meets the night.

  3. California knows all about the tragedy of wildfires; Louisiana, too, though we don’t get the publicity … hurricanes take all that. Your words conjure the season so well. https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2024/08/kindness-and-lies-chapter-thirteenn.html
