Skeletal
Tonight’s sunset is tinged scarlet,
bleeding into the lagoon, out
beyond, into the lake, falling through
summer-thick shrubs beyond twilighted memories
where something of the past joins
skeletons of rowboats
in soured brackish water, rotting
like a black heart.
And the setting sun shivers.
