12 September: An Ekphrastic Poem

AI MJ

An Ekphrastic Poem: A Contemplative Man

The sky is full of his thinking,
he is an old soul, and communes
with the footsteps of ancestors.

Metaphors float in olive oil,
and chunks of bread for dipping.
And like magic, his eyelids smile,
and we fall into his eyes.

Paint brushes in a chalice,
sculpted metal, filamental freedom.
Air fills with scented pages of books,
and maps, palette knives and pens.

A stretched canvas is against the wall.
He paints a portrait of a man whose
mysteries are lost in his own tattoos.

A man with a September face
that preserves sacred languages
and sentient soft songs.

He says the portrait is not of himself.

  5. What an insightful ink, dear M!
MJ photos are incredible -the portrait is looking at the artist, who is looking at the reader…
I also love the double aspect: human and AI ; in fact, I would bet that The Contemplative Man would love it also, as he appears to have Synthesis as a life-long tenant.

    1. I’m unashamedly glad that you like both the AI image and the poem. ♥️ The image was a delightful challenge that took a few days of tweaking and word manipulation. I had such good fun playing with it. There were three that were good enough to keep. This one was my favourite. Nancy liked a different one. Funny enough, MJ thought the portrait should also look at the reader, but it wasn’t what I wanted. I wanted a linear perspective and surreal connection within the image, and slightly gothic. I hope to use the other images with future poems.
