17 August: A List Poem

Photo: home-grown tomatoes, halved and ready to be roasted in the oven, a bulb of garlic with one clove missing, and a very hot chilli pepper.

Before Noon

Boiled nine potatoes.
Didn’t count, just grabbed a big handful.
Nine.
*
He’s outside
with his newspaper in the morning sun,
which just disappeared
behind a cloud.
I read The Guardian.
*
That weatherman
who always wears
running shoes
guessed wrong again.
*
Wrote this
while roasting
a kilo of tomatoes.
*
Made soup.
