Arrivederci Italia.
This is Bourgogne,
and it’s about wine today.

Vineyards, and wooden presses.
Dust-flaked villages,
and yellow stone houses
with shutters closed on white heat.

But I want to see Beaune.
Next time, he says.
Which means
I’m not going to see Beaune.

Arrived.
Dijon.
The city.
Not the mustard.

Nevertheless,
I plan to buy mustard.
Lots of it.
For not seeing Beaune.

And because I simply love mustard
that snaps the nerves on my scalp.

  1. Beaune is lovely, actually nicer than Dijon. I had my best holiday in Nuits.

    1. I took a few liberties with this piece; we’ve been to Beaune a few times, and Peder wasn’t keen to go back. He also likes Nuits, buys Pinot Noir – I prefer Dijon; fabulous museums and galleries. Good morning, B.

      1. Good Morning, Misk. Or, evening now. That country is hallowed ground. So many world-fmous vineyards within such a small area. I still have some bottles I bought down there 20 years ago.

        1. And good evening to you, too! Finally a day without rain. Kent and Sussex are producing some good wines also. Darned expensive though.

          1. We have a few vineyards around here, but I’ve never tried it. It’s very champagne-like which I’m not overly partial. Gimme a burgundy any day.
