28 June: A Gogyōka Poem

AI art: cubism forest fire in the style Paul Klee.

Day 28. Write a poem celebrating the resilience of nature, even in the face of human challenges.

Forest Fire

Fire is reigning here alone
Trees in flames of glowing stars
Ash, page after page, falling like snow
Two branches fall to earth below
Saplings see a broadening sky

    1. Between you and me, I really don’t like this one. I hate forest fires. I hate what they do, and how they destroy everything. Totally merciless.

      1. Exactly why it’s so very evocative!
Really, does anyone like forest fires? They’d have to be insane!

        1. Most forest fires are caused by people, whether intentionally or not. Some are insane; some are careless; some should be imprisoned.

          1. We just witnessed the devastation caused by the recent wildfires in Canada. Even in NYC we could see the hazy sky and smell smoke. Such a tragedy!

  2. I do know that in Australia, some bush will not regenerate without the heat of a bush fire to burst the seed pods and I find the last line positive. More light for the next generation…
