16 June: The Stars Fall Sideways

in the style of green and yellow rolling hills, sheep, watercolour painting, created by Midjourney.

Day 16. Describe a special moment when you felt truly connected to nature.

When the Stars Fall Sideways

It’s not the poetic fill
of a challis-filled lake between
the rising foothills of the Alps,

or
the memory of season’s change,
or Orion’s star-embellished belt,
or autumn walnuts roasting

or
the first snowflake falling

or
the look back over my shoulder
at the moon, fixed firm as
privilege amongst its planets

or
finding a perfect seashell
as I walk the beach.

No, it’s none of those things,
because

what connects me
is the scent of green and gold of fields,
and knowing

that stars always fall sideways over Sussex.

  4. A good way to get in all the many things that do before the one that does best! And my very favourite kind of landscape Misky – I love this time of year when fields are contoured with lines of mown grass…

    1. Thank you, Andrew! We’ve just been advised that Kent and Sussex are under a hosepipe ban starting next week. Our rolling hills will turn brown fast.

    1. I’d be surprised if we saw any of significance.

      1. We had about 5-minutes of heavy, thundery rain which ran straight off the soil and into the drains.

  7. What is magic in nature for me is to awaken in the morning after the first snowfall in the eventide. You look out your window at a world transformed as if by magic … nothing seems familiar — all seems to be a sparkling faerie land, and you expect snow bunnies to peek their wrinkling noses out at you from their burrows. 🙂 https://rolandyeomans.blogspot.com/2023/06/war-smells-of-dead-tomorrows.html
