5 March: RDP “Intransitive”

AI art: raining landscape, muted colour, abstract

It Is Raining

She is an intransitive verb.
No need for objects, or
things that have no face.

She stands. A path
edged by stiffened trees.
It is raining.

The stream is rising.
Swift. Churned clouded silt.
Her dog jumps in. It’s gone.

Some decisions are wrong,
she tells herself. Her words
disappear below the water.

  1. Quite a distressing poem. But such an interesting response to intransitive. I feel like you have reached a usable definition of it. I just stuck it in mine, leaving the reader to figure it out. But I feel like you have defined it with a character. So clever.

    1. It is distressing, truly. This piece is based on an actual event that happened last month. The woman was found weeks later. The dog made it out of the water by itself a few meters downstream.
