Hunters in the Snow: Bare Thorns

Hunters in the Snow (the thorns)

Hunters in the Snow: The Bare Thorns

February is a wind
that cuts through the bare thorns
of the rose bushes.

Never mind the hum
of small black gnats that possess
the air. .

Better to remember
a rose’s scent. Your father’s voice.
What makes you laugh.

And I set my pen aside
and listened – because I am
the hunter’s earbone.

  1. This is such an interesting poem! I love every stanza and find it fascinating trying to link them. Just absolute intriguing. The kind of poetry I crave.

  2. What a brilliant last line. Where did you get that one from!

    1. Boots audiologist. He was explaining to Mr Misky what was up from down, and this bone from that bone. He was offered a free hearing test for his birthday. 😂

      1. 👍 Careful with Boots. They gave me a free hearing test, then tried to con me into paying for hearing aids which I was entitled to for nothing on the NHS!

        1. He told the audiologist that he was no more deaf than his wife, and that it suited us both well. 😂 I think he agreed to go to the mall just so he could claim a free cake from Costa. He had freebie stuff coming at him from all sides the other day.

  3. Love it all, Misky; but I’m particularly enamored of the rhythmicity of the penultimate stanza.
