How Long Is Your Length of String
How long is a length of wind
that gusts in gallops. Does it
blow longer than childhood.
Pity that mother slicing a loaf
thin enough to last 4 or 5
days longer. Or is it longer
than build-up to war. Longer
than peace that never lasts.
A hungry wolf’s in this wind,
beating and blowing again.
It’s homeless. Comfortless.
And it’s by sheer good fortune
my head’s not in black water,
or under foam-fretting waves.
Across the road, a new baby
arrived. Its bare feet are soft
as rose petals, too soft for
the long hard road ahead.
How long is the length of
that child’s journey. Is it
longer than sorrow?

Is Stream of Consciousness really a stream or do you edit it?

Okay. Déjà vu, I think. 😂 I latch on to something that’s stuck in my head, or maybe I see an image that catches my imagination. I just go with what my internal voice is thinking about it. I type. Minimal (if any) useful punctuation … like typing my random thoughts, sometimes they string along nicely, other times it’s bleeding nonsense and requires some editing, add some conjunctions to stitch things together so the reader isn’t thinking what-huh-what because it’s like a run-on sentence that eventually shudders, skids and stops because it runs out steam, or maybe that should be stream rather than steam, and my goodness the wind is blowing fist hard against the house, the window frame creaked like my bones do when I wake up and it takes a bit of effort before my back straightens up …. do you get the idea? Like that. I just type, and then tweak it to make it readable.
