Day 22: NaPoWriMo 2021

Day 22: Miz Quickly’s Impossible prompt and PA’s Animal prompt

Haunted Fog

I.
Blind Fog

The cliffs drop off
into whiteness,
a blue and grey brew
of updrafts and silk.
The air, it feels
haunted by fog.
That chill,
is proof of it all.

II.
Delirium Fog

Four crows on the lawn,
appeared from nowhere.
Stepped through some
interior door, and brought
a delirium fog with them.

Across the street, a cat
the colour of curdled milk,
watches from the shadows.
It’s singing like a violin.
Paws wide. Legs ready.

The fog smells like peonies
and lime, and my heart gives
a flutter at the thought
of my mother.

  1. I love the imagery here, especially in that II part.

    1. The fog was so thick this morning that I couldn’t see beyond Alison’s ridiculous palm tree in her garden. Why anyone would plant a palm tree in Sussex is a mystery to me. That cat, btw, is real. It’s a tweedy white with a solid black tail. I suspect there’s a fleck of siamese in it from the sound of its meow-ish-howl.

  3. I agree with JYP about the who stanza imagery in part II but my favourite two lines are:
    a blue and grey brew
    of updrafts and silk.
    Love it
