Crossing the Mississippi
I’ve never been to Missouri,
nor seen the Mississippi River.
Fog swamping the carparks,
mist hanging light and low.
Shadows bend
in a gnomish squat.
Light goes missing
in a fog like that.
A friend texts me a photo of that
river every time she crosses it.
It’s not the same. It’s like licking
a photo of an ice cream cone.
Is it possible to miss something
that you’ve never seen? One day,
I’ll cross the Mississippi, and
I’ll send a photo to my friend.

Marvelous stuff. I LOVE the licking of the photographed cone!
I’ve never crossed it either, but I’ve spent many (ie MANY) blissful hours on a bench watching the boat traffic go by. I’m certain that I lived a previous lifetime playing the N’Orleans jazz clubs.

Awesome. I love the 2nd stanza and the licking of the ice cream photo. 🙂 Such a cool use of the prompt.
