It Comes In Colours (of no particular order)
I. Downtown Brown
She wears new shoes and her downtown brown coat,
and she walks by the vendor with roasted nuts, and
the man sat on the pavement wrapped in a foil blanket.
And she doesn’t look back.
II. Green Bee
The scarlet roses are a rambling wild fire over the fence,
autumn pulling at the crackling of leaves.
Envy is that brief green, and bees noisy
as bells and clanging chimes.
III. Illuminating
Morning sunlight through the rain. Through the drifts
of crushed scented flowers. Cooling as water’s waves.
Shiny as a robin’s song. Morning is life through quiet eyes.
IV. Ibiza Blue
If we emptied the air, would earth still be rushing ahead.
I’ve never been to Ibiza. But I will pin its blue ribbon cameo
to my heart.
V. Winery (or Wine)
Dark. Deep. Stained. Muted music from behind the wall.
Snow on your tongue.
Still as night dreaming.
A fairy’s stain when it fell from the sky.
VI. Daylily
In the silence of that sprawling dawn,
I once thought I heard God in birdsong,
in the tumbling spill of the creek,
through the quiet and
through the filling of it.
There is an odd delirium between
sleep and wakefulness.
VII. Tomato Cream
It’s the colour of slurred heat.
Regret. Gravel under your bare feet.
Heaven’s wall without a gate.
Crackers that go disappointingly limp.
VIII. First Blush
A swarming of warmest white,
like the souls of small-boned birds,
shining as they reach for the sky,
and embarrassed by their own beauty.
IX. Clear Sky
I feel tall today. My feet on a pebbled beach.
My head knocking on the cloudless sky.
The sea shatters into spray, and the sun
throws smiles at us.
X. Red Alert
It’s the language of fire,
of lightning, of veins bound to bones,
of heaven’s theatre and its stars and storms.
It’s language with a magnet’s force.
Or the thought of being lost.

Only a gardener could write such a super poem about beautiful colours. Gorgeous.
I do sometimes wonder how paint manufacturers come up with their names. We got a lovely grey called ‘elephant breath’ once. You haven’t got a part time job working with Dulux have you?😂

I love grey. It’s highly underrated. As for the paint names, those are curtesy of the marvellous Miz Quickly. She thinks she’s a hare, but we all know she’s not. 😂

All beautiful and vivid, Misky. My favorite is VIII, which is ethereally beautiful.

I’m rather fond of the “slurred heat” which is precisely how I felt when walking in Prague a few summers ago … before Covid etc … I wonder if I’ll ever see Prague again. (sigh)

Within the words, I see the colors in a. We way. Remarkable, Misky. I spirit reimaginings. Will save to my chapbook and reread.
