AprPAD: Day 9

Lock-Down

Lately, I spend too much
time standing at the window
looking out at a static view.
I hear myself breathe.
I hear wind. I hear birds.

The postman wore
blue latex gloves today.
Passed us by. No mail.
No cautious fingers to
prod envelopes open.

I heard on the radio
that people are misting
the mail with alcohol.
Some wait a week
before opening post.

My neighbour burns
all their envelopes.
Cereal boxes, too.
She burns everything
that’s willing to ignite.

She worries Darwin will
catch C-19. She stuffs
him in her pocket, and
then she walks; he rides.
Darwin is a Chihuahua.
